Formerly called Winberie’s, The Black Powder Tavern gets its name from the building that houses it – as it was once used as a secret black powder munitions hideout for the Continental Army back in 1777. The building also served as a meeting point for American leaders like George Washington and Marquis de Lafayette – to name a few. The tavern also provided food and shelter for the hungry and weary soldiers and aimed to raise their spirits.
